We’ve seen firsthand how e-bikes are changing the way people commute, explore, and enjoy the outdoors. They offer freedom, convenience, and a greener alternative to cars. But with great power—literally—comes the need for increased responsibility. E-bikes are heavier and can be quicker than traditional bikes, so safety needs to be top of mind for every rider.
First and foremost, always wear a helmet. It’s a simple step that can save your life. Even if you're just going around the block, accidents can happen in an instant. We recommend wearing high-visibility clothing and using front and rear lights, even during the day, to stay visible to cars and pedestrians. And don’t forget a mirror or two, and a working horn/bell.
Know your bike. Each e-bike has its own set of features, assist levels, and braking power. Spend time learning how it handles before jumping into traffic. Practice braking, turning, and starting smoothly—especially if you’re carrying cargo or riding on hills.
Follow traffic laws just like you would in a car. That means stopping at red lights, signaling turns with hand signals, as well as lights, and riding in the direction of traffic. Be extra cautious at intersections and around parked cars—doorings are a common hazard.
Finally, keep your e-bike well-maintained. Check the brakes, tire pressure, and battery regularly. A well-tuned bike is a safer bike.
We love seeing new riders discover the joy of electric biking. It’s fun, anyone can do it, and good for the planet. But safety is what keeps it sustainable. Ride smart, stay alert, and you’ll enjoy miles of worry-free cruising.
