Bucks County Cleans Out Cabinets: Medications Safely Removed from Our Streets

Posted

Bucks County residents sent a powerful message this past Saturday, April 25: safety starts at home.

As part of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, local law enforcement collected 9,641.06 pounds of
expired or unused medications along and 1,202.91 pounds of sharps.

Thanks to the participation of Bucks residents across 48 collection sites, this collaborative effort has effectively
prevented thousands of pounds of unused medication from being misused or ending up in the environment.

Since this initiative began in 2010, the Bucks County community has collectively disposed of 263,370.38 pounds of
medication. By choosing to properly dispose of these items, Bucks residents are being proactive against accidental
poisonings and the misuse of prescription drugs.

Beyond cleaning out medicine cabinets, this event served as an opportunity to provide resources. At six designated sites,
NARCAN® (Naloxone HCl) Nasal Spray was available to the public. This life-saving medication is essential for the
emergency treatment of opioid overdoses.

Need Narcan? Bucks County residents can obtain this life-saving tool at no cost to them. Call 215-444-2700, email

 Never share: Medications are personalized for the individual; never share yours with others.

     are handled safely.
