A Friendly Reminder for Our Chicken-Keeping Neighbors

Keeping chickens? Tips for a pest-free and neighborly experience

Posted

We’re fortunate to live in a community where many residents enjoy keeping chickens. To help make this a positive experience for everyone and to avoid attracting unwanted visitors like rats, raccoons, and other wildlife please keep these tips in mind:

  • Secure Food & Feed: Store chicken feed in sealed containers with tight-fitting lids. Avoid leaving food or scraps out overnight, as they can draw pests.
  • Keep Cages & Runs Clean: Regularly remove leftover food, soiled bedding, and droppings. A clean coop not only keeps your flock healthy but also reduces odors that can travel to neighbors.
  • Protect Your Flock: Ensure coops and runs are sturdy and closed up at night. This helps keep chickens safe from predators while limiting access to pests.
  • Be a Good Neighbor: Remember that not everyone keeps chickens. Reducing noise, odor, and pests shows respect for nearby households and helps maintain good neighborly relations.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe, healthy, and enjoyable for everyone, people and chickens alike!
