Pre-K Counts at the YMCA Morrisville Child Care Center is a 4-star quality-rated early childhood education program operated by River Crossing YMCA. Focusing on learning and building academic skills, Pre-K Counts is a free program funded by the state of Pennsylvania for children turning three or four years old by September 1.

“Our program uses the state approved curriculum, FunnyDaffer, that focuses on academic skills, along with Second Step, which focuses on social emotional development,” said Angela Cloak, director of Pre-K Counts in Morrisville. “We ensure that students are academically ready for kindergarten, and socially and emotionally prepared for life beyond our walls.”

The Y’s Morrisville center maintains six Pre-K Counts classrooms, each accommodating 15-18 students with lead and assistant teachers. Lead teachers hold bachelor’s degrees and teaching certifications in early childhood education. Along with curriculum and activities, students are provided a healthy breakfast and hot lunch each day. Applicants must meet income guidelines and be a resident of Pennsylvania to qualify for this program.

“We've been a part of this community since the 90s and have established great connections,” Cloak continued. “We take walks to the local library and fire station, and community helpers like nurses and postal carriers visit our school. Situated along the Delaware Canal, we incorporate nature into our curriculum year round.”

“The Pre-K Counts teachers go above and beyond, making learning fun and kids feel safe,” shared Charlene, a parent in the Morrisville program. “The director listens, supports, and keeps things running smoothly. And most importantly, Kylei grows, makes friends, and comes home excited to share about her day from school.”

River Crossing YMCA provides over $12 million of community impact annually in financial assistance and wellness to those in need, serving over 142,000 individuals at 12 branches, 13 child development centers, and 20 camps.
