SEPTA shuttle buses replacing trains on M, West Trenton lines

The second phase of Bridgeport Viaduct project gets underway Aug. 1.

Shuttle buses will be replacing trains on a pair of SEPTA lines beginning Saturday, Aug. 1.

On the M, formerly known as the Norristown High Speed Line, busing will be implemented for 20 consecutive weeks between Norristown Transit Center and Bridgeport Station. Full service is expected to resume Dec. 19, SEPTA officials said.

In general, trains will run normally between Bridgeport and 69th Street Transit Center; however, for the period of Aug. 22 to Aug. 30, riders will need to board buses to get to and from Gulph Mills Station.

The project — a $55 million restoration of the Bridgeport Viaduct — will also necessitate shuttle buses on the Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail Line between Norristown - Elm Street Station and Norristown Transit Center from Aug. 15 to Aug. 23, according to SEPTA.

SEPTA previously closed the viaduct for construction between late March and early May, and a third and final outage is scheduled to occur from Jan. 18 to Feb. 6, 2027.

A much more short-term disruption is coming for riders of the West Trenton Line.

To allow for bridge repairs, the authority is planning to operate a shuttle bus between Yardley and West Trenton stations from Aug. 1 to Aug. 14. Passengers who need to access West Trenton Station should account for extra time in their commute, officials said.

Modified schedules for the West Trenton and M lines are posted on SEPTA’s website. Riders can also call customer service, which is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for more information at 215-580-7800.
